Dermal Filler FAQ's

 What is it?

A soft injectable gel consisting of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine for comfort.

 What is hyaluronic acid?

A sugar molecule naturally found in our bodies which can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. It’s for this reason hyaluronic acid is used to restore age related volume loss.

How long do the fillers last?

There are many factors which determine the longevity of the products we use.

When you see our provider for a consultation, they will discuss this with you. They tailor each treatment based on your specific cosmetic goals.

Will I bruise with this procedure?

Bruising is always a possibility anytime you introduce a needle into the skin. Our provider takes precautions to try and avoid any vessels but sometimes bruising still occurs. They also ice the treatment area before injecting to help constrict blood vessels. This also helps decrease the chances of bruising. Arnica is applied to the skin post treatment which is a natural product known for its anti-inflammatory benefits. If needed, a sample container of Arnica will also be given to you for home use.

Products known to thin the blood and increase the chances of bruising and swelling: alcohol, fish oil/omega 3’s, Vitamin E, green tea, NSAID’s, Aspirin, and blood thinners.

When areas of the face can be treated?

There are various areas of both the upper and lower face which can benefit from dermal fillers. Some are: temples, cheeks, under eyes, NLF’s (smile lines), Marionette lines, lips, lip lines, jawline, and chin.

Static lines, which do not completely resolve with Botox/Dysport treatments, may also be injected with a thin filler to further smooth out the area.

Are dermal fillers permanent?

There are more permanent fillers available but all the fillers we currently use are able to be reversed and dissolved.

For first time filler clients, this is especially useful to be aware there is a “safety-net” if for any reason you’re not happy with the results.

 When will I see results?

Results are seen immediately after injection. Swelling also occurs after treatments and may last up to 3-4 days. Ice may be applied to the area to help decrease the swelling. Our provider does 2 week follow-ups to assess your results and discuss further treatment, if needed.

It is normal to feel the filler under your skin. If there are any lumps/bumps seen outside of the skin, our nurse practitioner will address that with you at your 2 week follow-up.
